The Critique Café

Inspired by the great artists' cafés and salons of Paris, The Critique Café is an international online meeting place where artists come together to discuss art, develop their practice, and build confidence using the specialist English of contemporary art.

More than an English class and more than an online tutorial, The Critique Café recreates the atmosphere of the traditional artists' café; a place where ideas are exchanged, work is challenged, and creative friendships are formed.

Each session combines group critique, discussion, and practical language development through conversation about contemporary art. Participants present work, analyse exhibitions, explore artists' ideas, and practise the vocabulary used in art schools, galleries, residencies, and professional practice.

Whether English is your first language or your second, the focus is on learning through dialogue. Members develop the confidence to discuss their work, give constructive feedback, write artist statements, prepare for interviews, and participate in international artistic communities.

The Critique Café welcomes students, recent graduates, and practising artists from around the world who believe that the best learning happens through conversation, curiosity, and shared creative experience.
