Barnacle encrusted rocks.

Barnacle-Encrusted Rocks is a disposable sculpture made from children’s coloured modelling clay, forming rocks covered in clusters of coloured barnacles. The barnacle is an Eye-Worm motif that repeatedly returns in memory and inner vision, appearing independently of any deliberate attempt to recall it. The sculpture is temporarily constructed and staged before being photographed using RAW long-exposure photography. During the exposure, light is drawn around and across the sculpture with a torch, making the illumination itself part of the performance of photographing the work. The resulting photograph is then deliberately distorted, pushing the image away from straightforward documentation and towards the strange, hyper-real appearance of an AI-generated image. The physical sculpture is temporary and disposable; the photograph becomes the surviving work, preserving an image of an object that was never intended to exist permanently.
